Junior tells Rowdy about Reardan- Kayla Duran

Junior tells Rowdy about Reardan

Junior had a tough time telling Rowdy that he was going to Reardan, because Rowdy is Junior's best friend and only friend, and he was unsure how Rowdy was going to act. Junior was scared and nervous because he didn't know how Rowdy was going to act. Junior decided to tell Rowdy that he was going to Reardan because Junior wanted Rowdy to come too. Also, Junior didn't want Rowdy to be surprised and mad that he was leaving. Junior was trying to make Rowdy more comfortable in this situation.

Rowdy acted the opposite of how Junior thought he was going to act. Rowdy was furious. Rowdy thought Junior was joking at first, but after he realized that Junior wasn't kidding he lost his temper. Junior's best friend started to fade away, as Junior kept telling Rowdy that he was going to leave to Reardan. Rowdy started to think of Junior as a white lover. Rowdy acted negatively about this idea because Rowdy was an all star in every sport, and every sport he played Reardan crushed him in every game. Rowdy also thought of Junior as a traitor because Junior caught Rowdy off guard. Finally, Rowdy thought that Junior was leaving him for other people. Rowdy was not ready for this situation, and Junior and Rowdy may never talk to each other again. Do you think this situation with Rowdy changed Junior's idea of going to Reardan? Will Rowdy become just another person who picks on Junior?

  1. I don't think Rowdy will pick on Junior i just think that they will not talk to each other. Also i don't believe that Rowdy's punch in the face made Junior think twice about going to Reardan. The punch just left both Rowdy and Junior without any friends.
Also when Junior punches Roger, the alpha dog of Reardan, why do you think Junior gained Roger's respect and didn't beat him up?

  2. Junior gained Roger's respect because he challenged a guy twice his size. To Roger being challenged is a new experience and he realizes that Junior's deserves some respect for it. Junior also stood up against racism and punched Roger in the face. Roger realizes that Junior is a kid who will stand up for what he believes and I think that Roger realizes that too and starts to respect him. Also Roger sees that Junior will not back down and let Roger step on him, but why do you think that Roger was surprised and being punched by Junior?

  3. I think that Junior gained respect which was built off of the feeling of being defeated. As a big white boy, roger had probably ever been attacked in this way, as a chief (like they were saying).

  4. Since rowdy has tought times with family since junior is treated as family to him, I think rowdy will keep on attacking him as if he felt like he was attacking his dad, for payback.

  5. In juniors situation I think it is very cool that he is standing out which is probably hard to understand for Penelope (last page rejection) and Rowdy. Roger though understands where Junior is coming from. do you think Junior and Roger will be friends? I think they will build a relationship helping Junior move on from the poverty and no hope of the reservation which h has grown up in.

  6. I think that this situation will have some effect on weather or not he goes to Reardan but not completely overthrow the whole conversation he had with Mr. P. Although Rowdy had been Juniors best friend since birth I do believe this situation will bring them apart. In one of the earlier readings Junior said that he and Rowdy were in-seperateable but Junior does have one thing Rowdy does not and that is hope. I believe that Junior should and will look beyond the past and into a future at Rearden.
